I’ve spent a lot of time at the Getty Center. And I’ve never run across him until yesterday.

Portrait of Pope Clement VIII Jacopo Ligozzi, designer;  Romolo di Francesco Ferrucci del Tadda, mosaicist; Italian, Florence, 1600 – 1601

I’m SO not a portrait of the Pope kinda girl, but doesn’t this look like it could slide right into a folk art museum? As always, I love me some well done collage/assemblage/chunks of stuff on canvas.

Here are the details on the materials:  Marble, lapis lazuli, mother-of-pearl, limestone, calcite (some covering painted paper or fabric cartouches) on and surrounded by a silicate black stone.
