Went to the Art Walk downtown last week. Man. There is some not so good art out there.

But! I did wander into a cool new gallery, g727–though I’m not so sure about their website. Jonas Lara had great photos from his freeway series up down the block, as did Patrick Hammerlin at The Hive.

His work is collaged, starting with found pieces of scrap wood, and the little shot above doesn’t do it justice. He was just lovely, selling lots of pieces and chatting it up about his process with anyone who was interested. I, of course, heart collage, assemblage, Los Angeles, and those creepy windmills, so what’s not to like? Vaguely reminded me of these old favorites.
