I was in San Francisco a few weekends ago for some non-museum related activities and wandered into this spot. And by wandered I mean someone in the group iphoned “cool stuff on this block” or something and poof, there it was. The highlight (besides a completely overwhelming bookstore) was the history of Sleeping Beauty.

Apparently it was rather ground breaking in that Walt gave complete control of the film’s look to the art supervisor, Eyvind Earle. He’d been disappointed in the past when control moved from one artist to many, and wanted to see what happened when the style remained a singular vision. I was in the gallery with friends who work in animation which was fun for nerdy sidebars. Made me wanna see it all over again as an adult.
